  • Shim-anigans...

    Hi all,

This weekend see's me embarking on the task of taking the lid off to check the shims, clearances etc. (wish me luck and wait for the barrage of help requests typed with oil covered hands....).

Could you advise on the shims I need, as well as which gaskets I will need to order so I can get on to RoughTrax tonight/tomorrow to get them ordered?

    TIA

    Andrew.

As far as I remember, the only way to find out what size shims you need is to take the cover off and check. Then you'll have to order them.

Yup, measure the clearances you have, work out how big/small they are compare to stock, then take the shim out thats in there and measure that, add (or subtract) the size needed to get the gap right from the shim you have in there and that will give you the size of shim you need. There are 16 sizes of shim at £5 each, so you don't want to buying sizes you don't need.

Remember, some of you old shims will be right for other valves, so you won't needa whole set.

You won't get the old shims out without a special tool, unless you take the cam out which is a PITA as the cam belt has to come off.

        Good luck....
