Got an e-mail back from the new owners of Can-Back today......

Seriously thinking about hitting the credit card for one, would be sensible to ship more than one together in anyone else is serious.

I need to check the shipping to the UK with them, and if you want one quick they want a deposit (apparently, they have more orders than their cash flow allows to make out right, so if you pay a deposit first they are prioritising them first, till things get rolling properly)

You had placed your name on Can-Back's call back list for updates on when the Can-Back for the 4-Runner would be available. Can-Back is now comfortable with their manufacturing process, and they are accepting pre-orders for the first production runs. These will begin shipping in 6 - 8 weeks.

    The standard Can-Back features are:

-Sunbrella SeaMark (rubber-lined Sunbrella) Top Panel
    -Sunbrella Side and Tailgate Panels
-GoreTex Tenara Thread (will outlast the Sunbrella fabric)
-Smoke-tinted side and tailgate panel windows
-Removable Tailrail (rear panel no longer snaps to top of tailgate)
    -Black or Grey canvas
-Two Mounting points for optional cross-bars or light bars (100 lb structural / 150 lb stainless load rating on 2 bars)

    -Options:
-Stainless Steel Hoops (50% stronger, and stainless steel)
-Cross bars to mount ladders, canoes, or jacks
    -Light Bar to mount 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 lights
    -Lights
-Basket to carry luggage, gas cans (attaches to two cross bars)
-Spare Tire Carrier (attaches to two cross bars), 33"+ tire and Hi-Jack mount

    The costs will be:

    Basic Unit: $1,200
    Color Choice: Free
    Side Panel Windows: Free

    Options:
Stainless Steel Hoops $100 (stainless steel upper structure)
Roll-Up Kit $40 (provides structure to help roll up side panels)
Cross Bars $150 each (two are standard)
Light Bar $200 (cross bar with 7 mounting tabs to mount 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 lights)
Yakima MegaWarrior Basket $399 (requires 2 cross bars)
RatCage Tire Carrier $275 (requires 2 cross bars)

We are getting prices on light kits (PIAA, KC, Hella, Daystar)
    Expect $200-300 / pair

    Shipping and Packaging: $125 (Can-Back)
Shipping and Packaging: $45 (Cross bars or Light bar (any qty))
Shipping and Packaging: $0 (Yakima Basket has free shipping)
Shipping and Packaging: $45 RatCage Tire Carrier

There is a lot of interest, and there are more orders than we can afford to cash flow. We are accepting $600 deposits in order to place your order at the front of the queue. You will be billed the balance once it ships.

If you do not want to place a $600 deposit, then we will still accept your order. We will bill you in full when it ships. But we will process your order after the customers who provided a deposit.

Thank you for your understanding on the deposits.

    Pics here....

Love the rolled up look in the first pic, and I think the roof rack is cool, but may alter shipping costs due to bulkiness, but we'll see.

You could make something like that pretty easily surely Tony?
1.5" steel or aluminium tube and 12 square metres of canvas.
        A handfull of press studs.

Ok its sunday and last night was the firms christmas bash,so my brain is working even slower than usual....

The standard kit is $1200 + shipping, ok got that bit, the roll-up kit is $45 xtra so far so good.Is the standard superstructure (i.e. the bars) not made of stainless? and if not is it an xtra $100 per bar?

So the total cost would be... $1410.00 if the standard superstructure is stainless.
or ?????? if I need to pay xtra.

I have got the instructions from 2 sites that tell you how to make the whole lot , plus a guy I know who would do the plastic side windows . But these kits are the best as made by a professional company . I think the cost would be worth more than my Runner . Why did I not get an email .
Any way , to doddy round here to have a soft top on any vehicle , unless garaged .

Maybe, but to be honest, I doubt it'll fit as well, and a flapping/leaking hood would annoy the hell out of me. ANd you know my record of getting round to doing things on our junk!

You don't HAVE to DIY everything you know! Go on, buy something, it feels good......

That wasn't so much a sentence, more a random collection of words. On a plus note, his spelling and punctuation were impeccable.
