Hard drive, bare no idea, but you should be able to put it in a USB enclosure and use it that way with little problems.
Music, MP3, yes no problem, WMA might be more problematic as it's Microsofts music format, no idea if there are codecs available for the Mac
Wireless router and BT Internet, no problem

The main issue with Macs, is that 99% of the software available to download is in Windows format, there is only a tiny amount for the Mac, so you may find your choices limited. If you just want basic web/email etc then you should have few problems.

            Yes yes yes...

I assume its one of the new intel macs...

Existing stuff: I assume its all your music / pics etc..the mac will know what they are its how you get them across from your old machine... just connect a network cable between the two ..get the mac to look for your PC, once it finds it..copy the files across.

Your software... in Mac mode NO !! software needs to be especially written for the MAC.. but fear not your MAC can be told to be a PC running an emulator called 'bootcamp' so all your old programmes will run (although there is a decrease in speed, games might suffer)

Internet... NO problem .. my neighbour was given a Apple laptop (work) and she was worried as it took some 3 weeks for her IT dept to get her online at home via NTL... I switched on the MAC plugged in the internet cable and the MAC woke up and connected itself automatically within 20 sec... online... no probs

Youtube etc... no problems networking..no problems.. i only run Mac's i have three and one PC ..they all talk to each other and my ramblings on this forum are all via a Mac

            hope this helps...

I use a Mac at work and a PC at home. Macs are good but decent software is not as easy come by as for PCs and is usually more expensive. So unless you are going down the graphics route ie. Photoshop and publishing programs I personally would chose a decent spec PC.

OSX is a BSD unix based system. *nix software will generally compile and run on the Mac. Granted, they have done weird things to the system, but the base system is still *nix. If you can do it on a pc, you can generally do it with a Mac.

yeah you can do all that no problem.

"bootcamp" is only needed if you deperately need to run some PC only software and there are better alternatives anyway.

desktop or laptop? I've had at least 4 macbooks goes wrong in about 3/4months at work - no probs with any new desktops yet.
