In my ongoing quest to kit out my new surf....

Does anybody know where to get a good dog guard for the boot?

This thread is about cages but I'm sure that they would build you one.

Does anyone have any info on whether cages are better/safer than guards? Also anyone know where you can get a decent rear liner?

A cage would be a lot safer, some cheap dog guards are not bolted in so they could come forward with the dog under heavy braking, you could also leave the rear window open during the summer to cool you mutt down.

Hi we breed and show dogs so regularily transport them about and would advise the cage option. Although our main transport for the dogs is a Citroen C5 estate with fitted cage, I bought the Surf as my toy and to pull the caravan. With this in mind I bought the standard adjustable dog guard to contain the dogs on the occasions it was used. The guard is worst than useless, for as soon as the dogs push against it it collapses forward. No amount of stretching and tensioning will make it stay in place. When my new Surf arrives on friday I will be going up the Hereford to see Hamster Baskets as they will tailor make a cage to fit. They quote a very reasonable £135 and you will have the flexibility of being able to remove and fold it when not in use

I got a "Petbrand" crate from Kennelgate, prices from 35 for toy dog to £100 ish for Rottie size - mine was £42 as Maddie will be Collie/Springer size when full grown.Branches are defo in Bletchley, Hemel and Walsall but don't know of any others.
Crate is fully collapsible and has side and front doors and can be padlocked for security. A point to mention which I only just became aware of is that the crate should be securely anchored.
Hope this is of some use!!
