xenon are supposed to be HID ( high intensity discharge) bulbs that require an extra ballast ( rather like the thing that starts a neon tube / light) these bulbs on ebay are nothing more than the bulbs you've already got with a false looking blue tint, as long as you are aware of that buy them if you are happy with the price

AND you can only use HID lights if they are self levelling. thats why proper ones are soooo expensive

speaking of proper ones, I have a boxed unused pair of genuine HID bulbs , ballast , and wiring to replace the equivelent H7 halogen , (Single fillament ) i.e dipped or main but not both. Not much use to surfers, but if anyone can make use of them I want £80 and I'll pay the postage. Was going to fit them to my megane, but it turns out to be a bumper off job and I cant be bothered with them now,

Xenon doesn't require a high voltage strike voltage, HIDs are metal halide are they not?

My mate's just fitted them to his scooby (non-self levelling). His next MOT might prove interesting

Unless you've up-graded your headlight wiring, those will be only slightly brighter than your standard bulbs, but with a blue tint.

Re 'proper' HIDs, this explains a bit.

Often referred to as Xenon but are actually more specialised metal halide.

Pukka HID lighting systems on modern cars is one of the reasons for rising insurance costs, the cars are written off 'cos the cost of replacing the lights plus any other damage after a front end smash just isn't cost effective.

Why have stupidly expensive, vunerable lights on cars when carrots are so much cheaper???

I replaced the halogen bulbs with Xenon bulbs in my 2001 BMW. All that was stated then was that the bulbs were filled with xenon gas as opposed to halogen and the glass was tinted blue, they were quite a bit brighter and with a whiter light.

I am going to buy these bulbs and give them a try, for that price I think it's worth a go.

Will post again if they improve illumination (or not as the case may be!).

Worth a go for that price. I had them on mine when I bought it. One has since been replaced with a standard bulb with no change in light output at all.

Bugger me (will not literally of course, just an old Geordie saying)! I was going to buy them but Ant beat me to it!

Never mind they're bound to be back very soon. Anyhoo it serves me right, I should have bought them then posted to the forum.

                            (EDIT)

Woooo Hooo, just noticed I've passed 100 postings AND you can say bugger on here!

                            (EDIT)

Yeah, just went to sellers shop on eBay and found 97 sets left so I've done my normal trick of crying before I'm hurt (another old Geordie saying I believe)!
