  • Realistic Price?

    Hi!
I am new to this forum and and currently in the process of trying to find a Hilux Surf for general use and to tow horses.
I have been looking at a:

    1996
    Hilux Surf SSR-X
    3.0 litre Turbo Diesel
    50,000 miles
New cam belt, 12 months mot/tax, warranty etc.

Which is up for sale at a local garage, specialising in Japanese imports.
The price on it is £6995 - I was wandering how this price compares to normal market prices? Is that a realistic asking price? I am buying through a garage as I have a Land Rover Discovery to part exchange and do not want the hassle of selling it privately.

Any advice on Hilux surf 'shopping' would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks!

Hi and thanks for the reply! We are in Camborne and looking at a Surf in Treverbyn motors, Camborne.
I saw that Humero was advertising the Hilux, but assumed that as the add had gone up in December and that it seemed such a good price so it would have sold? Will look into it though...
      Thanks again!

Hi again.I take it you were looking at the dark red surf in there.I must admit if i was to go for a 3rd gen then that 1 would be the 1 i would go for.Mike and Brian in there are good as gold.I have had both of mine from them and they sold my old 2.4 for me last year aswell.Humero's surf is still up for grabs.
If you need any help at all at looking at any surfs then you can leave a message on here and i will get back to you or send a email or pm to me

If you want to have a test drive of a second gen then let me know and you can try mine out if you want so then you can try the 2nd and 3rd gens

Agreed, you can knock at least £2500 off that price if you look around.

Do put your horses in a trailer of some sort before towing them. For one thing, towing them without a trailer is probably illegal, and their hooves would probably wear pretty fast on tarmac.

For that price it would have to be mint in every respect, tyres, exhaust, and bodywork (fully serviced) if you feel that apart from the normal oil and filters you will have to spend any money in the first year, then reduce the price by that amount, it also depends on what you can squeeze out of your trade in.

Remember you are in a very strong bargaining position, theirs not a lot of money about post Christmas, and you alone no how good a condition the vehicle is in, but even for mint condition I would not be offering much over £5000, but you have to consider the expense and inconvenience of looking elsewhere in the country for a similar car.

As a final thought they may be the nicest people on the planet to deal with but that is no reason to pay over the odds.

                    P.S.
Welcome to the site and good luck

Thanks for all of your replies!
The surf I have been looking at locally is in very good condition, the only flaws i could see in it were a tiny hole in the velour on the drivers seat and a slight scuff on the bumper. Have still been worrying that the asking price was a bit over the top. Have seen another Surf on a dealers website, which is the same model, year and mileage as the one i have been looking at, for nearly £2,000 less! It is located further afield (in Saltash) but it may well be woth the travel to get that kind of saving...

Thanks again for the advice (might pop out and get one of those trailer things for the horses that Apache was talking about!!!).

sorry to put a damper on things Becks but if it's that blue 1 for just under 5k then that is still over priced for a second gen.Why not give Humero a shout about his.I have got his tel.no if you want to give him a ring.
Like i said if you want a test drive you can try mine out if you want

Yeah, deffo no way you want to paying more than £4K for a ANY stock 2nd Gen, no matter how good.

We got rid of 3 93' 3.0 2nd Gens this summer for people, all went for between £3500 and £3000
