Happy new year surfers!!
I know this is a topic which has appeared quite a bit, so sorry to harp on about it

As some of you have seen in previous threads I have problems with my rear window (nothing new there), to recap:

1) Both Key and Interior Switch operate the motor okay
2) I can hear the motor running
3) The window will move but it is VERY laboured and will not go up and down without considerable help (i.e me forcing it about)

I have taken the panel off and drenched everything in WD40 which has had no effect.
I have sprayed rubber lube on all of the rubber seals which has also not helped.


Now for the new bit which may identify the fault.... Both the bleedin' rear windows have now joined in, they will only go down a couple of inches each (I know they never go all the way down) and the keep getting stuck!!

What the hell does this mean?!?! ARRGGHHHHH!!!

Could mean all three motors are U/S ( the rear one for sure) or it could be a dodgy earth on the rear doors.

BTW. WD40 is not much good for the rear (or any) window mechanism as all it tends to do is wash out the thick grease thats already there.

I found that silicone grease is best ( get it at plumbing supplier for drain pipe assembly) it wont rot any rubber seals or the like, and it stays put for a long time.

Do a search on the electrical forum, bound to be something in there.

When my windows especially the back oen started getting very slow it was due to one of my batteries dying. Well i found that out after i could not start the surf and after both were replaced suddenly everything got better lol

The reduction gear inside the window motor can delaminate. It is a nylon cog glued to a metal washer and shaft to the output (the bit that drives the window regulator). Some people (Vince for instance) have had some success with gluing them back together. It didn't work for me so I drilled through and fitted CS machine screws with bolts. 8 months later it is still working OK.

This is what happened to mine and I have just had to obtain a replacement motor. My advice, don't leave it take the panel out of the rear and lubricate with grease all of the moving parts. Silicone spray is ideal in the runners.

This sounds like what mine is doing, the motor makes noise and the gears that move the window move (a very small amount) as if something is then slipping! So the question is this...... how do you get the motor out, I had a good look but can't get on the bolts that hold it to the mechanism?

It is fiddley getting the motor out with the mechanism in situe, but possible. I used a ratchet spanner 10 mm I think and with time the three screws come out. The difficulty is then getting the motor back, it may be easier to take out the window and mechanism as this was what I ended up doing. Worthwhile as everytrhing can be cleaned and lubricated

Hiya ,had this trouble with my old G reg 2.4.. eventually got the motor out (it's a git to do) and dismantled the gear box end of motor ,dont think your supposed to but with care you can. Mine was all siezed up , so cleaned out regreased and hey presto worked a treat
