Saw a nice one yesterday - trouble is it was attached to my mates truck..

I must be looking in the wrong place for the sump plug then....

Underneath, it's the lowest sump. Plugs in the middle of it, facing straight
down.

I can't raise the car where I live, unless I park with the front wheels on a kerb, as I have no driveway, and my neighbour won't let me use hers, or the people behind me - and they are both gravel, so no good anyway.

The last time I took it to 4x4R Us in Warwick they told me they needed to take the condenser out of the way to get to the sump, so I tried to look underneath when I got home, and didn't have the space.....

OK - new oil today and MolySlip.

Added it all, waited and started but the noise under high revs is still there. It may be that the oil needs to get across the whole engine as I haven't driven yet after the oil change, so that could be it. The noise is also intermittent, in that I can hear the odd 'clack' but not in time with the rest of the engine sound (if that makes sense). So, now I'm a little confused - also see dumb oil question thread - I put too much in by mistake....

Any ideas on the noise?

I could still be a fuel problem. Try loosening the drain tap on the bottom of the fuel filter to expel any water that might be in the fuel.

Maybe fill your tank with brand name diesel e.g Shell or Esso ect. and not supermarket stuff. That city diesel you get from supermarkets can be a little low on cetane ratings. I always fill up from the lorry pumps.
Also, try some injector cleaner in the tank as well.

Bu99er - just filled up at Tesco - and the jerry can too...

I'll get some Diesel redex today/tomorrow - drive all the current stuff out and run a few tanks of shell through - and do the fuel pump thing too (I can do that tonight) and see how I get on.

Fear not, I had this sound (like a worn cam chain) a week or so ago, and it more or less coincided with when I'd been playing in floods. I was c@cking myself for a bit.

However, I've now run a tank of shell and a tank of esso through it (I normally use Morrisons own) because I was way oop north. Seems to have quietened down a treat. $$$$ fuel maybe. I also have another diesel filter here, and probably should go and change that...

Re. your oil pressures. Mine sits just above centre at motorway speeds, and on the top line of the bottom block on the dial at idle. Both readings are slightly higher when cold.

Hiya - mine are still the same too, after the tranfusion yesterday, they were a little low, but today at 50+ bang in the middle of the dial, lower speeds or idle, just on the top end of the first block - so spot on there (hopefully this means no major engine issues??????)

Diesel filter changed. A bit of gunk in the old one but not too bad. Haven't used much veg recenly though...

Time for another dumb question - not being someone who unscrews drain plugs on fuel filters too often (first time today ) am I right in thinking that fuel is also going to come out of this plug - and not just diesel smelling water - that went right into the inch long cut I got yesterday taking the sump plug out?

Yup. Soon as straight diesel comes out, close the tap.

or better still just take the fuel filter off and empty it out then fill it with redex and refit it then drive it hard for a few miles
