Dirty switch... $$$$/dust/whatever inside the switch being fried as you switch on... get a new switch.. if this is not easy to do.. you could try to clean it out.. ***disconnect printer from mains *** get Isoprop cleaner.. Maplin might stock it. Its used as a cleaner for electrical stuff... spray into switch and it might clean out the $$$$...put a rag underneath switch to collect spill...

Depends upon the printer. If it's an inkjet, most of them tend to have tactile
switches which merely put the printer in/out of standby state. Lasers tend
                    to have proper mains switches.

With regards to Isopropyl, I prefer to get it from the chemists. Some of the
service chemicals manufacturers have a bad tendency to add other chemicals
to the solution. Chemists will supply the clean product.

If it's an inkjet why not just replace it ?

By the time you have replaced both ink catridges you will have spent more than a new printer anyway - great pricing strategy - NOT

Two different capacities with the H.P's, generally. The last digit after the
cartridge number tells you whether it's high or standard capacity. It should
say in your manual which is which.
