so what would happen if you didnt know anything about vehicles and you bought a vehicle with not so obvious performance mods (say the washer mod on the turbo) and you had an accident, they send an inspector round he spots the so called mods that you know nothing about, does that make your insurance null and void.

Yeah but if it's something that was never factroy fitted to any of them?

With the insurance, they'll always try to shaft people anyhow. Who was
it who said that the only thing insurance was good for was getting your
road tax? Ne'er a true word was said.I dunno i got a free stone chip repair once! and done a grands worth of damage to a freelander with a bus and never had to pay. And got a volvo door replaced on someone elses insurance, damn yeah i've paid £3000 to insurance companies in 4 years and only used £1500 of my budget! LOL
Oh yeah, forgot to mention they'll try and shaft you for removing something that was factory fitted aswell. IE) removing steps, or front lower bumper, for better clearance

Lot's of long $$$$$$ arguments, and so on and so forth, you should get the payout eventually, but you'll have to fight for it. Bring up the declaration you sign on the proposal form that says 'to the best of my/our knowledge' blah de blah de blah yadda yadda yadda etc etc etc 'this vehicle has not been modified in any way' blah de blah de blah yadda yadda yadda etc etc etc yeah that bit you never read, you just sign

When LifeSure get back to me i will ask if he has read thru this thread and see if he can answer some of the questions raised. Also when i got a quote from A.flux they said they have someone also that logs onto the forums especially if they do discounts for club members so they can check to make sure you qualify for the discount .Also people that are saying what mods they have done on the forums (not just this one but any forum)then they could end up dropping themselves in the pooh if they ain't declared the mods they have done.
Well that's what i reacon but i will find out,

Your date of birth is in your profile, it's all that is needed to find your policy if you are insured with us

Seriously though, we don't use the forum to investigate clients. Stormforce emailed us to ask about the modifications.

Nero, where did you get the 'official' line on declaring modifications to insurance companies? I would like to read it myself.

Dont take this the wrong way Gary but when a insurance company offer a discount for people that belong to a owners club or forum then how can a insurance company know that this person is a member or just someone who has heard of the forum/club, or do you just take their word for it

Ooh, do we get a discount??

Gary, look at my birth date. I'm the one that puts all lifesure employees' kids through college . Maybe I should move out of London.

What is the stance on modifications, then? Is it company specific the info
required, or what areas are classed as modifications?

I had some problems a while ago with insuring a modified escort, a large insurer told me over the phone my mods were covered but wouldn't put it in writing, so i did some research on the net, magazines, national press and spoke to a few people in the industry. So it's come from a variety of sources.
