PC soundcard question

I know this is off topic,but..........when installing an external sound card do you still have to disable onboard sound and uninstall the onboard sound cards drivers ?I know this is the procedure when installing an internal sound card,just wondered if it is the same for external.Cheers

PS:onboard is AC'97 being upgraded to Creative Soundblaster Live 24 bit external.

Disable in the bios and remove drivers so there is no conflict

you can just disable your onboard in device manager sould work no probs
