  • Do you like the new front view.

    I’ve been busy this morning!

    Before:

    After:

Called by a garage selling imports yesterday and asked if they had any Bull Bars…..
They sold me one off the front of one of their own Surfs.

Took much longer (2 ½ hours) to fit than I expected….. did have some help, but the job is just awkward getting the bolts in.

Does anyone know if you can buy the padded “Hilux” sleeve anywhere?

I also need to get a wiring harness for the PIAA lamps (not sure yet if they are fog or driving lamps).

Anyway, I do like the result. Just can’t see my V6 badge now

I know what you mean about those bars. I have the exact same ones and went to take them off. After about ten minutes of dicking around I went back in to watch telly and forget about it.

Definately looks better with them. Like Ian says, they just look a bit bare
without something on the front. Must admit though, I'm trying to decide
whether to remove the light guard sections from mine, and just leave the
centre section in place. (Same type of bar as Ian's). Like a nudge bar type
thing. BTW, Ian, this musing is your fault. This is since I saw
those pics of yours being built up.

With those lamps, can't you just wire up your own harness? It's fairly simple.

I remember (cue spooky music) when people used to say "if it isn't bolted down they'll nick it".

Now, even if it is bolted down they still nick it! What do these crims do? Walk around with a full toolkit - just in case they see something they like? Or are they being stolen to order? It happens over here...

Lights are usefull, and no matter what the Gov says, bullbars are usefull - even if its only for bouncing drunks off on a Saturday night, but please don't over-bling!

I will vouch for "bullbars are useful", we have an A-Frame on ours and when we fell into a hole in our truck we landed square on the bars. I reckon I'd have done a fair bit of damage to the front our truck without them. Instead we just have wonky bars!

Too much bling will restrict the airflow to the radiator and unfortunately I can also vouch that Surfs need their airflow...

Thanks for the comments, I don’t expect everyone to like the bars……
I do and that is what matters. Most of the Toyotas & Mitsubishis I used out in Africa had bull bars fitted and that is part of the reason I like them, they just look “right”.

The PIAA lamps have connector blocks with 3 wires fitted so I suspect they are not fog lights (but I might be wrong) possibly high/low bulbs? Don’t know until I take the front off one.

I shouldn’t have too much problem wiring them up with 30 amp relay & fuse. I fitted 6 spotlights (4 on roof-bar) on my Land Rover without any bother.

One advantage I have found with the bull bar is that I can judge where the end of the bonnet is better than before.

                            Cheers, Paul

"Bling" is the ostentatious show of wealth (bit like Posh & Bec's wedding!) and I am hard put just keeping my vehicle on the road so put it down to professional jealosy!
