  • Clifford Alarm

My wife has a Mx-5 Mk1 ('96) with a Clifford Concept 50 alarm system. A while ago she went to unlock the car, pressed the remote and it wouldn't unlock. So she unlocked the drivers door by key and set the alarm off. She then noticed that the side lights had been left on all day and she wouldn't start. Doh! Anyhoo, since this time the immobiliser doesn't come on after 30 seconds of unlocking and the LED flashes five times every time she gets in indicating something's wrong with the bonnet sensor. The alarm still sets and works as normal.
She rang a Clifford dealer today who said she should get it sorted as soon as possible (as of course he would) as if she didn't she could be somewhere at eleven o'clock at night all by herself and it might immobilise itself and not let her drive home! She has my manual which indicated that the system was designed so that this couldn't happen anyway. She hadn't told him at that time that this happened months ago and haven't had any problems since ... hmmm ...
So, didn't like that and was wondering if it would be possible to fix this at home? It's possible that the bonnet sensor's rusty, so maybe a clean up and a bit of WD40 / wax to make it waterproof and see if that cures that one. Does anyone know how to reset the immobiliser?
Many thanks in advance for any info.
