  • Rear bump stops.

    Hello,

I need to remove and trim the bump stops that live inside my rear coil springs.

What holds them in place? Red arrow?

And whats the small plastic cap for (accessed over the to of the frame - yellow arrow) in the top of the mounting.

ps - not my truck in the pic - its off the aussie site.

There is a hole up the middle of the rubber to a bolt on the chassis. Most just break off as they rust where the rubber is glued to the metal plate.

You can lose them with any lift spring fitted, it won't ever close up enough to touch them anymore.

You're supposed to put spacers under them, but this ruins any extra up travel for offroading the longer springs give you, so its a waste of time.

Dunno about the cap thing, never noticed before.

Looking at the dirt on it, I'd say it's floating on methane!

OK - lets play catch up.

The truck is the one off the aussie site where he does a suspension lift - its such a cowboy job the administrators post a warning denying liability.

                  see pic.

I want to cut my bump stops off coz I'm adding air springs to the back suspension.

                    .
These pics caused an uproar around the 4x4 internet a few years back when they where first posted, especially with the yanks. Certainly not the recommended way of holding up a car while crawling around under it!
