  • idle rpm

hi all. just reading some tech data on another thread it says that a 3ltr td auto should idle at 800rpm.is this right because i have altered mine before to 800rpm and it seems to surg real bad when i select drive or reverse. so i put it back down to 6/650 where it was

Does this mean that mine shouldn't be idling at 1000????

Not sure about the autos as mine is a manual and it idles about 800 at cold start then drops to around 650 ish when warm. this seems fine as if i drop it lower it still idles ok but you get to an idle where it causes the truck to vibrate. if i up the idle to 750ish (when warm) the vibs fade.
I think alot depends on the truck and you're better setting it at what is best for your truck.
