  • Surf vs. 4Runner

    Hi to Everyone,

    I own a 1995 Toyota Hilux Surf 3.0 TD, 5 Speed Manual, 4 x 4.

I love my Surf but I am a little confused as to buying parts for it because I live in the Bahamas and 4Runners are the most common models here. Are there any differences in parts or are they exactly the same for the 1995 Surf and 1995 4Runner?

I am interested in replacing the suspension and exhauset as well as the brakes and I dont know whether I can use the 4Runner parts or I have to order the Surf parts from Australia or Japan.

Thanks so much for the help!!

P.S. I have attached a photo of my baby when it arrived from Japan!!

Mechanical and body parts will be the same, electronic parts may be different as the Surf has more 'toys' than a 4Runner.

Nice truck by the way, like the wheels.
Looks like it could do with new springs on the rear.

          Thanks for the Help.

          Bushwacker,

Are there any differences at all with mechanical?

For most things I can see how they should be the same...(shocks, brakes, etc.) but some things seem like they would have to be different.

For example, if I was getting a new exhaust, I noticed that the tail pipe comes out on different sides. Wouldnt this mean that a 4Runner exhaust would be bent different from that of a Surf?

Let me know as I am new to the Surf World, Thanks so much!

            Bushwacker,

Also, about the springs in the rear, do you mean leaf springs or coil springs?

Sorry for the ignorance, I appreciate the teachings.

RE: the exhaust, the 4runner and Surf have three different engines, 2.4, 3.0 diesel and V6 petrol I think the V6 exhaust is on the other side, but not 100% sure, all 4Runners seem to have the spare wheel underneath, and Surfs can have underneath or on the rear door.

They are coil springs on the rear, and they sag after approximately 10 years from new, sooner if heavy cargo has been carried on a regular basis.
