  • Hello. I want to buy a Surf but...

...I've only got £3K. And I would only consider a 3.0. What can/would you buy?

    Any advice appreciated!

    Cheers

Hi Jim and welcome to the home of nutters.
You may be able to get a 2nd gen 3.0l if your lucky for 3k but if your able to get a bit more cash then you should be able to get a good 3l the 2.4's are ok there is a known head problem with them but i had mine for 2yrs with no trouble.Take a look in the surf's for sale section and see what you could get for your money.Good hunting for your motor

Thanks for the welcome! Just read through every relevant thread in "Surfs for Sale" and had a butchers on autotrader - there are currently about 10 Surfs listed there for 3K or less (I could frig the url to list a max of 3300 - I reckon they would lop me 300 quid off for quick cash) so it seems it is doable.

Called into a localish place last weekend (Juntion24 4x4 in Sawley) and had a look what they had, but there was nothing decent under 4K there:

        Seem a bit steep no?

Still looking... I bought another Saab last time but I do a lot of mountain biking and getting fed up of taking the bike apart to fit in.

Decided on a 3rd Gen 3.0 but what is a reasonable price for a 96-97? On the trader they range from about 3500 to 7995! : For 8K I'd expect it to do a godzillion to the gallon and have a bond babe drive me around all the time!

              Please to manage my expectations.

Shop around - £3k+ will get you a decent 3rd Gen.

Three years is a long time to be looking.

Besides here and the trader, anywhere else worth checking?

Algy's are all 6K+ (they are quoting all ssr-g's but I've managed without a compass for 42 years, so I reckon I can cross that off the "Must-have" list.)

Thanks in advance for any advice.

                    Jim.

Was offered a steal on a second Saab 9-5 saloon. Been good but need more space in the back without getting a lannie or a van!

Fleabay, pistonheads.com, and local paper's website are always worth a check.

                        And welcome!
