please help

took my surf out this morning everything was fine just took it out again and the engine tapping like mad sounds like an old fiesta any help would been appreciated

Has the oil preasure droped if so it could be the camshaft bearings or should I say no bearings cos if my memory serves me correctly the camshaft runs straight in the head, or maybe oil pump failing.
Or could be a cam lobe worn or a shim broken.

the oil preasure seem to be ok is there any way of testing the other things

you've checked oil level?

oil level is perfect i think its top end tapping

Is it Automatic or Manual? If manual check to see if noise is coming from the bellhousing area. The Dual Mass Flywheel can make a 'diesel knock' type noise when it's starting to wear, or worst if it's knackered.

its an automatic i just took it out for a little run it wasn't tapping on the way but started tapping on the way back
