  • what new car

That time again and I need to choose a new company car.
The Laguna is going thank god.......Worst car I have ever had and still paying tax on the 25 grand list price

Company will pay for lease car up to 30K in Value.

    Its gotta be fast
    Its gotta be well built
I want 4 wheel drive if poss (not allowed proper off road vehicles though so no new hilux )
Its gotta have all the toys, Climate/Sat nav/leather and so on.

Im thinkin of the Octavia VRS estate or the 4x4 version which would be thousands less than the budget and at 200 BHP fits the bill on the speed at least. 147MPH top speed 7.3 seconds 0 to 60. Evo and scooby's are also on the short list.

Any ideas for alternatives as the Skoda is a bit on the cheap side and I may as well exploit the budget. Beemers Mercs and Audis are out, as they are all for false people and a waste of a good chance to get a really decent car.

    Opinions most welcome.

    Al.

I think you should get a:

    VW Golf R2
    247bhp
    155mph
    0-60 in 6.4 seconds

£24,000 list price which leaves you with £6,000 for all your options.

i guess it's gotta be a brand new car?

i am thinking of changing the surf in the new year (don't kill me!!). I've become quite smitten by the mitsubishi legnum vr4. Its basically a galant estate, so still practical for the dog, but its got the 4wd system from the evo. full leather interior, lots of electric toys, traction control, active yaw control etc, and a 2.5 v6 twin turbo engine putting out 280bhp. i just miss going fast!! plus you can pick up a fresh import thats 7 years old with 40,000 miles on the clock for £6k, with all the leather and stuff.

back to you though, I'd go for the octavia, my mates just bought a diesel one and he's well chuffed with it. really well made and nice to drive. after all it's basically an audi under its skin anyway.

Do they still do those mental Foresters too?

Until you said dogs, it was Mazda RX8 all the way for me.

Oh no, No kids for me........... I like holidays too much

The car gets changed every 3 years as part of the Job. Just a coincidence that its at the same time as the house move.

Our MD has told me I can take as long as I want and the lease company will give me a 6 speed mondeo whilst I make up my mind.

Diesel, but so was the Laguna.......and they recon these new mondeos are pretty good so i don't need to rush.

If only this was the 70's, choices would be so much easier eh?

Just been looking on the subaru website at the legacy estate and the spec b one does look very nice nice. leather and sat nav as standard, and of course being a subara it'll never break down and it should be really well made (in theory!). Personally i think an imprezza would be a bit too small and noisey as they are a bit too rally-ish. a new legacy should be nice and comfy to drive to work, as its aimed in the same market at the jags and bmw's. Oh and the spec b is a 6 speed manual or 5 speed auto

good luck in your search and let us know what you decide.

Only 170 bhp 0-60 9 sec and £30k plus, better off looking at a Jag estate.

I think so, Ford are probably selling the Jags with the Lion V8 diesel from next year (bigger version of the Lion V6 in some Land Rover products) Its going to be a crackin engine. We have worked on loads of the plastic parts for this application from engine cover to airbox.

                          Good idea.

Scooby STi (must be the UK STi 2.5) with the ProDrive pack will come in at a shade under £30k. Thats around 340bhp. There's no new car on the road that will touch it for that kind of money.

The STi isn't that noisy. My mates is quieter than the Surf until he really leans on the gas. The new ones are a lot better mannered than the earlier ones. He's had loads, and the latest is the nicest driving of them.

The STi has an electronically adjustable centre diff too, if you feel like some rear end action (ooer missus!) or leave it in auto if you want to corner at mach 3!
