  • Wide load driver damages my surf

Just got back in from a most annoying experience.

Coming towards me on the road are 2 escort vehicles and a wide load. I stop right up against the curb and this fellow in the low loader with a huge earth machine comes straight thru and s$$$$es the roof of my truck, put a shallow crease in it and stripped the paintwork.

I could see the blokes in the earth machine looking over their shoulders at the scene and the driver knew what he had done as well.

I span it round and gave chase, he carried on thru the lights in the hope he would get away. I got in front of him about a quarter of a mile up the road and blocked his progress.

He jumps out all smiles "sorry mate, have I got you" I was cool at this stage and we exchanged details after I told him he was a t w a t and should have stopped so i could get out of his way.

All was cool until one of the escort vehicles returned realising his wide load had vanished. Out jumps matey and says "did you not see us in our wide load escort vehicle" At that point the air turned blue and I left both the driver and this cretin in no doubt at all as to what i thought of them and their driving abillity.

Just got off the phone to the bas&^%$ abnormal loads manager. He is coming to see me tomorrow night to look at the damage which is fair enough I suppose. The damage is not bad, just a slight crease and paint loss. I was cool until this arse hole turned up to stick his nose in.
I used to have a surf me!

at least the low loader operator admitted to it.ideally you wanted to take some photos of the paint on his load to prove it too,but you dont think of it at the time especially when some a-s-h-l- comes and buts in as they normally do.
Hope you get it sorted tho

As far as I know leaving the scene of an accident without stopping is an offence, which is why the "sorry mate did I get you" phrase came out.

He was hoping to get away, any probs with him or his escort mate just say hmmm police and health & safety executive need to be involved... construction plant moving industrial accident... that should get their attention..

Might also be worth contacting the OLD BILL as they would have had to register the wide load movement with them!

being a driver myself, most people dont realise that wide load escorts have NO legal rights when it comes down to moving you out of their way, legally the only thing they can say is please, as for leaving the scene of an accident you could have screwed him there, have you reported it to the old bill cos if you have and he has"nt, 3 points for leaving the scene and a further 3 for failing to report an accident.... chances are his boss will opt for a cash settlement cos he"ll be paying a minimum grand as his excess.... hope this helps...
the b****y dogs have been at it again
