    Any qualified pilots here?

A few years ago (with too many financial commitments) I looked into a fast track way of getting a pilots license. Turned out I could do it via gliding, then conversion to single engine, then IMC etc.

Trouble is I cant find the site I got this info from. Has anyone here learned to fly this way? Can anyone give me any pointers? Mainly I'd like to get into gliding having watched them locally during the summer but I'd like to convert to powered at some stage just as a 'string to my bow' as it were.

Told you Rick, life begins at 40!

I got called 'Wing Commander' by a traffic cop once when he stopped me for driving a tad fast in my XR4i. He asked me if I was having trouble taking off, or was I flying low this evening!

This is the kind of reply I'd expect from you...

XR4i, now there's a blast from the past! I had a XR4x4 until it broke the diff and became XR4x2 or XR2x4 or something. God how I'd give your right arm for an RS200 though...

Sadly a bit old at pushing 41, considered it but at 17 I just wanted to get pi$$ed and chase girls. I regret not doing so. To think I could have flown such wonderful beasts as Lightning (just!) then Tornado F3, or Harriers and... errr thats about it. F**k the risk, what an experience! Sad I missed out.

Yep. XR4i, rear wheel drive, 160bhp, two bags of sand in the back when the roads were wet. Billet alloy flywheel, extremely lightweight, could spin the rear wheels in the first three gears, real mans car that was......................

            s'cuse me while I wipe a tear away.....sniff.

Mate of mine had one. Cut down springs to get it to ride a bit lower... eek!

Now I'm in full on old rally car mode, and also feeling nostalgic.

Mine was lowered 2" with spax springs and shocks, used to sc rape the exhuast every time I drove on and off my drive.

That Audi quattro, wasn't that the car that started and ended the group B class 'cos they were getting too fast?

                p.s. I always wanted a black RS500......still do really.

Nah, that was the RS200 in Corsica (I think) that wiped out about a dozen spectators, and the Lancia 037 (or maybe Delta S4) that killed its crew, practically vaporising them. Shame because Group B was just the most awesome thing I've ever seen screaming past 4ft in front of my face!

The Quattro had an exemplary safety record. My dad had a Ur Quattro. Stunning! Felt like you were doing 150mph when you were only doing 300mph!

Just pulling yer leg...the pilots are the elite-most RAF jobs are pretty mundane. Would be pretty cool though- Lincolnshire to North Wales in four minutes!!!
