the bottle you are on about is the expansion bottle so dont fill that up.only just above the bottom of the pipe that goes into it.

someone queried me about this in
half-wits car park just this afternoon

as we were scrutinizing cars, he'd been told all sorts of thing there
          and wanted to compare notes.

I thought it just took water like anything else, not that i've ever topped it up

but he seemed to think only something like 'holy water' would do and that it had to be sourced directly from toyota-ville
as nothing else would fend off evil spirits from warping his cylinder head

          apparently...............

Get a couple of bottles of rad flush (slick50), drain, part fill add a bottle ,top up and run up the motor on idle with the cap off till hot, let it cool down and drain again, Do that again useing the other bottle and drain again, when cooled fill up with distilled water and anti-freez run her up and top up when shes bled the air out, Ian

also make sure heaters are set to hot and put on full power to circulate the coolant and help to get any airlocks out

It is lurid coloured stuff. It comes from petrol stations / halfords / tescos / garages / possibly space originally. As long as it's got something about ethyl and glycol in it or something, it will do the job.

If you don't use it your car will die. If you mean it as opposed to water, I have always assumed it's because water freezes and coolant doesn't. Coolant also boils at a higher temperature.

You put it in the cap at the top of all the hoses and stuff that says "don't take this off when the engine's hot or you will boil your face off".

Instructions on how to put it in can be found all around this very forum.

You can either buy it as very lurid coloured stuff that you mix with water (normally 50:50) or pre-mixed fairly lurid stuff that costs a lot of money from Halfords. My engine knew I had put the expensive stuff in and spat it all out again. Part of the ongoing battle between Halfords and the Surf army I think.

Someone will be along in a minute who knows a lot more than me.

I love that cap that says "coolant" on it. Obviously no room for the extra text that said "is in here, but don't bother trying to top it up here - it won't work".

                      are you lot serious???

surely you know to put coolant in a car engine???

it stops freezing in winter and keeps it cooler in summer... there are different blends available.

some people will only use the toyota ready mixed stuff

you also need to put oil, brake fluid and stuff like that in.

Could you please explain what this 'diesel' is too. Is this in the red, green or black pump? How do I get it in? I have filled my entire boot up now, my rear springs are sagging and I am having starting difficulties.

A mate of mine reckons I need some fuel. Is this like 'diesel'?
