My MOT station could not print out the pass certificate because the VIN No box on the PC program will not accept the Frame No of an import until the box for, "Date of first registration in the UK," box has been filled in. As I didn't have the V5 with me my nephew took it in for me the next day because he works for the garage. $$$$$$ computers. (Rather the $$$$$$ people that come up with the wonderful programs)It's only a hobby!

Originally posted by NFCMine's classed as Light 4x4 Utility, but they can still get the GVWR from the VIN plate no? Surely Revenue weight = GVWR, or 3500kg if GVWR > 3500kg ?4x4toys.co.uk - Keeping you on and off the road...

Ok.
I have found the letter that I had from the Vehicle Inspectorate. Please be aware that this was regarding the MOT station testing my Defender 110 as a commercial vehicle (class VII) and not as a class IV as it should be. As such they wanted the plated weight for it before they would issue a ticket. As my Defender has a plate specifying all the weights on it they issued the MOT certificate, but they were totally WRONG. I contacted the VI (VOSA) and told them about this and they sorted it out for me.
Revenue weight is for commercial vehicles that MAY have to pay a higher rate of VED. As your vehicle is a Light 4X4 Utility and is in the PLG tax category, the revenue weight section of the V5 is left blank as this class does NOT apply to your vehicle. The rules regarding Four Wheel Drive/Dual Purpose Vehicles are different.
Your V5 should state that your vehicle is a LIGHT 4X4 UTILITY and it is in the PRIVATE LIGHT GOODS vehicle category.
I hope this makes things clearer. Forget that MOT station and go to a place that knows what they are doing. May I suggest a garage that tends to do a lot of MOT's on 4X4's such as a garage that is out in the country and deals with a lot of farmers 4X4 vehicles etc. You could even take it to a Toyota main dealer that has MOT testing facilities.Last edited by M35A2; 26 June 2006, 15:21.

Afternoon all
Mine went in for test on Sat (more later) and the tester need the weight for the brake test. I rang local surf importers as there is nowt on the VIN and figures are as follows: vehicle weight =1965 kg's, total weight (I assume when fully laden with derv etc.) = 2135 kgs.
Now back to the test - went in 10:30 Sat morning to A1 autocentres (new franchise) price is £20 but no free re-test. I thought "here we go - cheap test but fail everything so costs for re-test each time" HOW WRONG WAS I
She sailed through, only thing she needed was a new mid section exhauset (I knew it was knackered but you never know - it might have just got me an advisory) and guess what - THEY HAD IT IN STOCK - same as for landcruiser/prado and cost £104 inc VAT & fitting. The blokes fitted the exhaust while the tester was doing the rest of the test (no re-test). Total bill £124 - WELL CHUFFED

Pie in the sky mate. Read my thread above. There are different rules for 4X4 vehicles. If the vehicle isn't supplied from new with a weight data plate then how can they insist? You then have to have the manufacturer issue weight data plates to all previous models, as going down the weighbridge for a ticket wont do, as some vehicles have mods like extra fuel tanks, bigger wheels, bull bars etc, etc. It would have to be a uniform weight for a particular model.
That would cost far too much money. If it did happen it would only come in on new trucks.
