    It makes sense though.

I do an awfull lot of miles all over the country and you cannot deny that the drivers of BMW X5's and porshce cayene's are pr***s almost every time. Our problem is not the predudice of the public against 4x4's - Our problem is being lumped in with those prats.

gas guzzling my ass. veg oil guzzling more like, and my cherokee was lpg guzzling. both green fuels. mobile phone when driving...never, its the only time you can have legit sanctuary from the mobile.
what about busses in london, belching out black smoke. grrrrrrr
bmw's, jags, volvos, mercs...all with some gimp in a suit on the mobile. white vans, skip lorries, all on the mobile phone....
so my vehicle can drive in mud, whats the 'ckin problem?

Yeah, heard this on Radio 1 this morning and nearly rocketed out of my car! What a load of tosh, they clearly interviewed a very odd cross section of people to justify their theory that they had already concluded - that 4x4 owners feel safer - it's more to do with arrogance and COUGH wealth.

"In a survey of 13,299 middle-aged drivers, researchers found people who drove while sleepy a few times year were 1.5 times more likely to be involved in a serious crash than those who did not drive while sleepy.

Those who said they drove while sleepy each month were nearly three times more likely to have an accident, the team from the Victor Segalen University in France said."

Then how come I have only had one prang, and that was eleven years ago. I pretty much am always sleepy when I'm behind the wheel.

There's lies, damned lies, and statistics.

i think there may be some truth in what they say but in actual fact it should read 'drivers of big exspensive cars' use the phone more whislt driving . My observations is that the more exspensive the car the more reluctant people are to put in a car kit whichin some cases damegs the dash when later removed. (this is my observation and not backed up by thousands of pounds of wasted research.)

and the manufacturers of 4x4s really play in to the hands of the 4x4 lobby by nameing the models user friendly names such as 'animal' 'warrier' etc etc

This is true about business men and the well off, also I have seen more women (normaly girls in there 20's) using phones than men. This is not sexist its a fact see 2 to 3 everymorning on the way to work.
About the names, its all the Macho image of 4 x 4's that I think also get peoples backs up. At least ours are Surfs and is more calming than Warrior etc... but to be honest I am sick to death of tree huggers mourning about 4 x 4's...as long as I am breathing ill drive whatever I want to, plus what else can I tow my race care with !!! yes I like to contibute to global warming, as up until this month its been $$$$$$ freezing down here and the wettest drought we have ever had...its about time they got a life.
If they want to save fuel etc, stop all the business men and members of parliment flying around the planet to have so called meetings but are really sh**ging there Secretarys with all expenses paid. $$$$$$ hypocrites.
              Cheers

Bang on....these people think the rules of the road are for everone else, not them. It would be far more acurate to do a survey as to what TYPE of person bought which TYPE of 4x4, then extrapolate from these figures who were the safer drivers...

It seems unjust to give the impression its only 4x4 drivers who don't wear belts and use mobile phones. I have seen more car drivers do that than 4x4 drivers. But I suppose it depends on where you live.

Ironically, saw a woman driving whilst using the mobile the other day.
The ironic bit was the fact that the police were manually directing
traffic at a roundabout due to an accident slightly down the lane, and
the dizzy cow still had the mobile to her ear as she was passing the
copper! Probably the only reason she didn't get flagged over was that
the accident was obviously their main focus.

In fact, getting off the point slightly, this appears to have been one of
those weeks where all the d*ckhead drivers seem to come out in force.

Ah... studies by colleges eh? About as accurate as Frank Lampard shots and contain about as many facts as a Labour manifesto.

"there's lies, damn lies, and then there's statistics, and thats 100% true"

Let's try to become an "Ethnic Minority" by inventing our own religion.

Then the government will pay us Hi Gordon , protect us, and ban the numpties from picking on us - Hi Tony
