  • As promised, some pics of my mods

Been working on my surf the last couple of weekends (admittedly only to learn the engine is on the way out, but we can sort that later ).

So far I've stripped out a lot of stuff and put in all the wiring for the sound system that I was discusing with Shab in Swapping out Speakers. Theres a voltage display fuse box under the hood, and several fuse boxes ready to be mounted to the subwoofer boexs in the boot.

Also moved the mains inverter into the rear quarter panel - seems as good a place to put it as any - see the pics. Converted the rear ashtray to a mains socket for those mobile phone charger moments, have to find a place in the back yet to fit another outlet - then I really must pop to B&Q/Homebase and get socket that are more accessorised to my vehicle LMAO

Fitted the in bumper fog lights and reversing lights too, and 2 reverse lights on the top cos i'm always getting stuck in dark alleys (DON't ask!!). Wasn't paying too much attention to the in bumper lights tho and put them the wrong way round oops!

The 7 inch touchscreen in now in the dash and the wiring for the computer is all fitted down the side trays ready to fit that too. The screen comes on ou using a relay when the radio is turned on. I've fitted an 'electric aerial override' switch which allows me to go offroad with the cd player still working witouht loosing my aerial too.

See attached pics, I will supply more as I go on

Nice job! i'm glad you know what your doing cos i aint got a clue about amps and woofers (except dogs) The white 13 amp plug will come in handy for the hoover, 240volts eh! how many batteries you got on there? Seriously though
well done, I know who to ask about ICE now,

Ian - there's 2 batteries in it at the moment, but i need to get another one to connect to the system (probably a deep cycle leisure battery) so I can definitely maintain everything.

Well, the side panels and all of the rear of the car ar eback together, i have custom fitted an MDF unit in the rear driver side quarter panel on which s mounted an OPUS intelligent PC power supply and a 2.6Ghz 512MB PC. This is linked to a 7" touchscreen in the front. It's kinda flapping about in the dash at the moment until i get around to fibre glassing a new panel. I'll try and get some pics of that. The subwoofers are back in now and wedged firmly into place where they should be, more pics of that to come too. It's pushing out about 1000watts at the moment as that's the full stretch of the speakers, however I also need to add in the full complement of speaker mid/tweeter components for the front and rear passengers, plus the boot (I intend to have people DJing out the back of the truck in pub gardens etc for promotion - whilst still being able to go vaguely offroad HAHAHA! Try THAT in nova!

I'm hopefully taking out the engine soon to change it (got a damaged cylinder/piston and masses of oil leaks) so i'll be upgrading the alternator. Anyone got any ideas what will fit that probably output about 180amps? Truck? Minibus?

With your usage may I suggest a unit like the one on the front of this engine

It's actually a 2.5KW amplifier rated @1ohm, however it runs 1000Watts at 4 ohms which is how I have wired it

So you took power from the fuse box to power the Subs?

Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

there's three sets of fuses that i have used and then to the amp, then to the subs. I'll do a diagram and then post it up when i have time cos it's not as simple to describe as would first seem

How about you guy's doin a good write-up in the electricle section on installing this gear, Sort of from start to finish with pic's, (when you got time of course) Sort of an idiot's guide as i cant be the only one who hase'nt a clue when it comes to in-car entainment, Mine dose'nt sound too bad now with the replacement speakers but it could be a dam sight better,
