    Hi everyone,

I am seriously thinking about buying a surf and have seen one at my local garage and i wondered if i am getting a good geal or not.

its a late 1994,not yet registered, SSRX 3.0 TD limited auto with 102,000kms on the clock. it is in very good condition inside and outside. it has bull bars, rear door mounted spare, tinted windows, multi change cd, turbo timer and all the usual things. everythings works and i have had an RAC inspection that turned up a few things. the garage has promised to fix all the problems the inspection turned up including the timing belt.

it will come with 1 months warranty and is £5,000.

i know that private sales are cheaper but i wanted to px my mondeo for it and he has offered me a fair price for that.

So guys (and galls) is it a good deal or should i look elsewhere?

Also anybody know of a good garage/mechanic in the Sheffield/South Yorkshire area that deal with surfs?

    appreciate any comments and opinions.

    thanks

    Peter

I would think that 5k is not expensive, but not cheap either.

However I think a car like the surf isn't entirely about the money. after all if it was just about money you'd presumably keep the mondeo. It's more about whether you fall in love with it or not.

      Welsome to the mad house.

The price sounds reasonable, but if I were in your shoes, I would press the dealer for 5 new tyres - Jap tyres in the wet can be, to say the least, entertaining, also I have found that they can also be long in the tooth.

It sounds reasonable to me. If it's had an inspection and the garage does all the work and you like the colour of the truck etc, then go for it. Forget about the warranty, I had six months on mine, but still had to buy a new rad and rear shocks. It shouldn't go wrong anyway.

          Welcome to the forum.

I think you will find that if you are buying off a dealer you must legally get a 3 month minimum warranty. If he's trying to palm you off with less than the legal minimum I'd be very wary of buying from him.

Thanks for all replies, i appreciate it.

i like the mondeo and have had it for 6 years but just busted a coil spring in spain where her indoors and i have just bought a house that needs doing up. last 4 miles to house is dirt track/potholed tarmac and is in a really poor condition. i will be spending a lot of time over there doing the work myself. so the car will be stuffed with bricks, bags of cement etc. and the mondeo just isn't up to it.

i took a fancy to the surf as i drove past, so i stopped and had a look. been back to see the guy this afternoon and is in the workshop having work done. so i guess that next week i'll be the proud owner of a surf. then try it out driving to spain (can't wait)

oh and thank for the info about warranty, i'll be checking it out.

Wouldn't worry too much about the warranty. As far as I
know, three months is a legal obligation, so they have no
choice even if they write otherwise on any paperwork.
However, unless it has a major problem, you are usually
better off sorting out smaller problems yourself. At least
then you know the quality of the kit that has been used
                        for the repair.

the waarranty depends on the aage of the car and the cost, there is such thing as a 1 month warranty but the car will have to be of specific age and cost...
