i only have one key for my surf it opens all the doors plus the ignition,if i got a key cut,say from my local hardware store would it start the car or just give me access via the doors?
are the keys chipped or coded in any way?
or do i have to go to a toyota main dealer and pay thier prices.

my keys have two buttons i think they say lock and unlock its difficult to read as the font has worn off,but when they are pushed nothing seems to happen.would the button type key be a problem to replace with a timpson cut cheepy?

Unless you actually need to use the buttons to access
or start the vehicle, a replacement should work fine.
Would recommend a proper locksmith, however. I
tried a couple of generic type keycutters that couldn't
make a working copy. Locksmith's worked first time,
however.

mr minnit did mine, my key had buttons that actually did work the central locking. there is no immobiliser fitted as standard so a standard blank key cut to your original will work fine.
