  • 1st surf; which one?

Have been reading up on the site for the last few days and have decided to buy a surf, not urgently, but will get one.
Which model would you recommend? with a view to maintenance and reliability in particular. Also what method of buying is ,generally, the best value for money ; ie importing direct through an agent or whatever, local adverts, or indeed buying through this forum .
I appreciate you must get posts like this all the time but I can't find in the archive, sorry. Would welcome any asistance you can offer .One more thing how easy/ difficult is it to get parts for these vehicles?

    Thanks guys.......Johnny

It's all down to personal preference and how much you want to spend.
    £1500-£3000 will get you a nice 2.4 2nd gen , £3000-£5000 will get you a 2nd gen 3 litre , and £5000-£8000 will get you a 3rd gen.
Personaly I think the second gens look better, but it's whatever floats yer boat.
Parts are easily available through Toyota dealers but are expensive, there are plenty of independent parts suppliers such as Roughtrax and Milners who can supply parts at a fraction of the cost.

If you buy one from a dealer who has imported it you may find that you save a lot of hassel and heart ache with paper work getting the speedo face changed, MOT Etc. And you should get a waranty that couls save you a few quid if anything gets broken of packs up on you. I needed a new timing belt, waterpump, starter motor and battery in the first 3 months, and the dealer had to pay for it all

They aint cheap to run, but are as tough as old boots. And the grin.... well it's just something that you have to learn to live with
