Somebody please help me! air con's pack up! things i've checked so far are, air con belt is in tact and not slipping, the system has gas in it, all fuses appear to be ok and when i push the ac button the light comes on, so now i'm at a complete loss if anybody can throw some ideas my way i would be very greatfull Thanks!

How do you know the system has gas in it?

When you press the AC button, does the clutch on the compressor engage, and start spinning the centre section of the pulley?

If the system gas pressure is low, it won't engage the drive pulley..
    It just does, OK?

Not sure, but I don't think so!
Has it ever worked? Maybe it's never been regassed cos the R12 that Surf's came with is not allowed now, and so the ac system needs to be updated to R134a ( I think that's the right number!!)

My local friendly ac specialist charged £70 I think for a conversion and re-gas.

        Well worth it!!!

AC has worked fantastic up untill last summer, had the system checked last year also and was told that it had the uprated gas, looks like i'm gonna have to go call the air con doctor, thanks for the help!

                    air con Newcastle

Have just had excellent service from Kevin at ACR of 16 Brunel St, Newcastle upon Tyne (0191 273 7700). Not only did the job for a song but gave a detailed explanation of how the system works.

a 1996 gen 3 will be using r134a gas , my late 1995 from japan is using it , the light on the air con button usually flashes when gas is low, you can also see the gas flowing in the system if you look in the view glass on top of the drier ( long thin black tube 2" or so in diameter ) located to the right of the radiator.
