    I'm really gonna have to stop getting sidetracked. This started from
    looking at oil catch tank designs Are these things, in general, any
    good/useful?

    Very little truth in what they say. Yes the bearings are running without oil pressure for a while but no way is it several hundred revolutions of the crankshaft.Neither are they running dry, as there is residual oil present from the last time the engine was run.

    Consider this, your engine has survived for 14 years without the help of one of these spectacular pre lubers so forget all about it.
