Has anyone seen any 06 4 Runners in this country? What would be the best option to import one (ie main Toyota dealer)? Are the Japanese spec the same as US?(4.0 V6 and 4.7 V8),and finally is there a diesel available (mind you if the 4.7 V8 is available in rhd who cares)?Cheers peeps.

The SVA test would put the B*ll*cks on it.

SVA shouldn't be too much of a problem. You will need an emissions test (Japanese and US emissions limits are at least as tight as EU ones, so souldn't have a problem passing the test), you will need an MPH speedo, Japan drives on the left and uses orange indicators, so lighting should not be a problem, and if mirrors etc. cause an issue (all corners have to have a certain degree of rounding) get hold of a set for a Vigo (sorry, Hilux).

But it won't be cheap, and you may need a foglight ...

I doubt very much that Toyota UK would assist you in any way with importing one.
Not certain about the 06 models but the earlier 4th Gens (and I think the last of the 3rd Gens) were available with the 3.0 D4D engine

Found this quoted on a site that do model reports.

[An emission test and report costs about £2000 (if it passes first time), a noise test and report costs about £1000 (if it passes first time) and a comparison test and report costs about £900. If you want to go really overboard, a crash test and report costs about £11,120 (plus the vehicle)]

so, do you recon that after dishing out over 15grand, and trashing the car, is it worth it?
Just go for the 3.0l tdi.

A lot more fun, and you get to keep the car after!!!

Crash test is only required if you want to sell over a certain number of vehicles. SVA is designed for one-off imports/builds so things like seatbelt mountings and sharp corners are checked (apparently Ford Mustang mirrors are too pointy for Europe!), and the potential crash safety appraised, but no impact test is done.

IF you can find another vehicle of identical spec that has been imported, the test station can use that for data refrence and just compare your vehicle's results with the information for that other vehicle, otherwise you pay to set the standard, which according to Andy's sources means 3-4k, plus vehicle, plus shipping, plus insurance, plus duty, plus VAT.

And you'll need to tow it everywhere until it has been tested and registered.
