Its not right, a nice V8 would be better.
I have been in a V8 version and its scary quick, I have also been in a 2.0 pinto one and surprsingly it is still very quick.
That said, agree it should have a bigger lump. Bit like the two one off's shelby made, ford V8 with twin superchargers, one for him and his best friend Bill Cosby.

Yea the pinto still doesnt have much weight to haul around. I think it was Pilgrim that did the cobra kit for the cortina 1.6.......

A mate had a MkI Escort stage rally car with what was basically a Pinto engine - developing around 300bhp. That's probably scary enough in a lightweight like that Cobra

Its not just down to thew power though is it? A car like that needs the "burble" and ground shaking ability thatonly a good old V8 can provide.

Local stealer had a Shelby approved replica in a few years ago - it was the right colour too - blue (That's right for a Cobra not a Surf !) - only had a small lump in it though around 300 cubes ........

Trouble was they wouldn't let me have a test drive - it was a bit damp and they said it tended to get skittish in the corners !

Then he gave me the keys and told me to fire it up in the showroom ......

Needless to say the subsonics just on tickover were amazing and just a tiny prod on the throttle had the walls rattling !

The real downer was the other half wouldn't let me ditch the Volvo and caravan to pay for it
Life is too important to take seriously !

This is just plain wrong on so many levels. Maybe if it was in a tunnel it might sound like an 8 pot. It would probably work better in a 7.
This must be the original sheep in wolf's clothing.
Parts of your engine go up, stop then go back! Mm!

                  Ha ha!

The joys of the kit car world! i do totally agree, if you were going to spend the money to build a decent cobra replica (about 25k-30k), i wouldn't skimp on the engine, you can get a lovely set-up monster v8 for 5K.

Anywho, don't diss the pinto engine, my kit cars got one of them! twin webber 45's and a short stainless straight through exhaust. you tune it the way you should, with a screwdriver, not a laptop! and 150bhp will be fun in a sub 500kg car!

I wouldn't put it in a cobra though, you have to have the v8 burble, though a jag v12 sounds interesting too, thats been done many times.

                  cheers,
