  • Jolt !

Hi again is it normal for a surf (3.0L TD Auto) to jolt into gear after a run ? When I start up in the morning and select drive/reverse there is a small jolt as I select but when I have driven home from work I need to switch off to unlock a gate. Then when I get back in and start up again and select drive the whole surf jolts as a gear is selected. Any ideas many thanks John

Not come across that in a Surf, but had similar in another car when Auto trans fluid was low - what's your level like ?

Is the fluid a nice blood red colour? If it's brown and smells burnt, it will need changing and not topping up.
Also, the jolt maybe because the fluid was hot. If it still jolts when cold, change the fluid.
Also check fluid with engine running.

Yes nice blood red and I guess the oil was hot as have only noticed the jolt when I've been on the trip to/from work a 15mile motorway journey. Have not notice any signs of over heating guess I'm worring about nothing...

Mine jumps sometimes usually when hot, Fluid is normal colour and level!,
Other auto's i've had have done it also, No real problem me thinks,
Too young to die and too old to give a toss

Checked it when warm now and still 650-700rpm so guess will just have to live with it as one of those things.....
