  • Whats best scoops or vents

Just out of intrest what would be look+work better on a bonnet a scoop like on a lot of 4WD's with intercoolers or loovers like on escort RS turbos and Mittsy EVO's

The reason i ask is i have a Trooper type scoop ive had for years and found in my loft and im considering fitting it to help cooling a little if it would work that way
They can go fast, I can go anywhere.

    The way I see it.....

Scoops are designed for intercoolers. You'll only see a scoop on a cooled truck (as standard).

A vent is a good way of venting the hot air under the bonnet.

A scoop fitted to a Surf bonnet would just force colder air onto the top of the engone, along with (potentially) leaves, rain, flies, small children, etc. etc...

A vent faces backwards, so would exhaust hot air out of the engine bay.

BUT, you could always fit your scoop, but face it backwards, to act as a venturi, and suck hot air out!
    It just does, OK?

If you don't fit it I will!
It can only help cooling and in my unqualified opinion would look pretty damn good!

If however you want to look different go for the louvres wouldn't look bad
      IMHO!

if you fit the scoop facing forward it could stall the air flow under the bonnet and cause hot spots, making it worse.

You could always block it off, if it is just for show. All you would need then is blue LEDs on the wiper stalks, 6" dia exhaust tail section, spinning hub caps and a pair of fluffy dice to finish it off. I nearly forgot one of those things that goes, "Pssshht," when you take your foot off the accellerator and everyone will think you have a dump valve.
        It's only a hobby!

I know what you mean but anything i fit to my surf has to be funtional and i had the feeling it could stall the air flow so i will possible go for louvres it just how far do you go before you get given a Burbury hat

What if you mount the scoop forwards but block the origional flow of air and cut a hole in the rear. Looks good AND functional!!!

                      Erm.....
I picked my new Surf up on Sat last week, and it has a bonet scoop on, big stupid exhaust but no dice.

I have to say, the exhaust was a bad idea, I only had the car for 5 hours and I broke it!
But it is an all stainless system

                          lourvres

if you go the louvres route you might want to punch in "cool louvres " on your search engine . they are in aldershot and actually press them into the bonnet so no nasty stick on parts the only down side being you have to re-spray the bonnet.
