  • Insurance Rant time!!!!!!!!

Right time to insure my 3.0 beastie.

Phone up, get a quote, job done. I should be so lucky!!!!!

I have two cars, an Omega with 5yrs no claims, and my surf with 1yrs no claims.

Tesco & Churchill won't insure the Surf with only 1 yr NCD.

Just swap the NCD over I hear you say. Would do, but some stupid bint went into the back of my Omega at 40MPH, whilst I was stationary.

    Claim pending, so can't swop.

Then try Admiral. All going well. Looking at the multi-car quote for both, looking very promising.

Untill I call them. I ask about putting the Omega on at a later date.

SAles person: "Yes, can do that sir, but why?

Tell them about the pending claim.

Sales person: "But sir, you should have filled that out on the form".
Me: "She doesn't want to go through insurance, wants to pay me directly for repairs"
Sales person: "But it will alter your premium sir"
Me: "I don't think you heard me, she hit me"
Sales person "I'll just add that on and requote. That's an extra £30.00"
Me: "How on earth?!" SHE HIT ME - NOT MY FAULT, why put up my premium???"
Sales person: "it's the under writters sir...."
Me "Ok, what about just the Surf for the time being?"
SAles Person: "that's about nother £30.00 as weel"
Me: " I just want to clear up one point, your web page only listed an SSR X, mines a SSR G"
Sales person: "Oh no sir, can't insure that model. Not if it doesn't have a UK equivelant"
Me: "It does, the 4 Runner. Besides, the SSRX is the same model, just a diffrent trim. It even lists the same 2980cc engine."
Sales person: "But the SSR G isn't listed so we can't insure it."
    Me: "They're virtually identical."
Sales Person: "I'll refer it to IT. But we probably won't be able to insure it."

So to recap, can't insure Surf with 1yrs NCD, even though other car (which I do 27K in a year) has 5yrs NCD.

Can't swop insurers, be cause of claim pending.

My premiums will go up, because of some bint not paying attention to the road.

Can't insure an imported SSR G, but can insure an imported SSR X

Note to Police looking in Kent for the 53 million pound robbers. Give me a call and I'll give you their telephone number & office hours.

In the words of Terry Wogan - "Is it me?"

On the plus side, Cobra seats & harnesses look great. Not road tested the Pacet 16" fan yet, but looks promising..........

Jonah try A-Plan they insured me my friend with no no claims, as i had a company car for the last 5 years, they even took that into consideration to lower the quote £355.

I'm with a broker called Quote-A (08707 70 90 70). They were going to insure me before I told them my No Claims Bonus.

Cool, will try them too as they insure my Omega at the moment. Tried last year but they didn't cover grey imports

Yeah I am with Norwich Union Direct and my quote landed on the mat this week and gave me heart failure £471.94. any way I picked my self up and reread it it turns out they had it as a 2004 model, so straight on the phone and they redo it and down it plummets to £290.

It only reads Toyota Hilux Surf (4runner) no mention of model, I also have a CAT 1 alarm fitted and this will possibly help in the price reduction

What we all must remember when looking at our quotes is that certain areas have different wheightings, plus of course age comes into it , so I am alright as i am an old *******!!

A-plan gave me an "introductory" discount equal to the NCB on my other car, so a thumbs-up there

Not unusual to knock it back if the exact model isn't on their screen. I was with liv.vic when I had a Pajero, at the renewal they said they couldn't insure mine as they only had a a LWB exceed on their system & mine was'nt an exceed, they had my model but only in SWB, I gave up with them and went somewgere easier.
Parts of your engine go up, stop then go back! Mm!

When they find out its a TD they will say it's not on there list only the petrol and they can't insure it happened to my brother after he had paid them

I got the same deal from A-Plan when I first got the Surf ( 60% NCB ). They didn't even want an alarm/immobiliser fitted.
When I renewed last year the premium had gone down again - I queried it but they said it was correct, so I didn't argue!!!

Finally went with NU, gave me an extra 10% off as my Omega is insured with them as well.

Using my 1yrs NCD it came out at only £100.00 more than Tesco and Churchill wanted with 5 yrs NCD

My advice to you would be to insist that her insurance company become involved, and then claim for un-insured loss in respect of the additional £30
                              Cheers
