Been looking at Vine Place nr Durham, where i got the surf from.

my wife has the celica 2.0gt import and it goes like s--t off a shovel.Believe me it is well worth getting. She says that if she was to get rid of the celica then it will be for the GT4 or the supra and even you will enjoy driving it as i do every so often and like the surf plenty of places to insure them with,i got adiscount from lifesure for insuring both the surf and celica with them

        Hi,

Just out of interest, why a celica? sure they've got plenty of power and good old toyota so it'll be reliable, but why the celica exactly? I only ask as one of my mates has one, and it's main problems is that the drivedrain saps some of the power and the car is surprisingly heavy. A 2nd gen MR2 turbo has the same engine, but sits over the rear wheels being rearwheel drive. They definatly shift, but i think the rear bumpers are fitted with hedge magnets as standard!!

If she wants it for the looks, it's worth considering an mitsubishi fto gpx mivec. Yeah it's front wheel drive, but you could floor mine from traffic lights and there was no wheel spin at all. I could stay alongside the celica easily, much to his dissappointment!! With the 2.0 v6 kicking out 200bhp as standard, it handled brilliantly!!

My missus hated it when it got written off and i bought a skyline. She kept saying the fto was so pretty and that it looked a bit like an aston martin, which is nice. have a look on www.ftooc.org for more info

Just my opinion (so not worth much really!!)

        cheers,

        Mart

Funnily enough i was gonna buy one of them after the fto had been written off, that was until i found a skyline was gonna cost only an extra £80 to insure!!

I had a GT4 many moons ago (ST205) and whilst it was fast, it never felt it. To sum up, it was a fast, safe handling sports coupe but ultimately quite uninvolving and a bit dull to drive. Very reliable for a 'turbonutter' type car though. My Mk1 MR2 wasn't a fast but was a FAR better drivers car.

A friend had a modded MR2 turbo (boost controller, methanol injection etc) and whilst being VERY quick in a straight line (rolling roaded at 320bhp), I could stay with him easily on a twisty lane with less than half the horse power!

Having said all this, I'd still have a GT4, but the later one with the big evo spoiler in yellow. Mind you, if I was thinking of cars like that, I might look to a Delta Integrale 16v or even better, a Ur Quattro. GTO's, Skylines, Supra twin turbos, all so sterile - cars for the Nintendo generation!

Mmmmmmmmm nice, there's a dealer near Cheltenham with half a dozen on his forecourt. Dribbling down my shirt can be a problem.

When the house is finished (two years and counting), the missus has promised (even though she denies it now!) that I can get meself a Westfield. Fancy the Megabusa version - get off to Prescott and do some hillclimbing.

My Tiger supercat will hopefully be finished soon!! Just like a westfield but cheaper. 2.0 pinto with twin webber 45s and a lumpy cam should be good for 160bhp in a car weighing less than 500kg. eeexxcellent!

I'm with Apache here, I spent a long time looking at GT4s and test drove a couple only to conclude I'd just lose my licence if I bought one, there just to compitent it never feels like your going fast. I bought an Alfa instead not as fast but was fun to drive and it only broke once in 48K miles ( leaking powerstering hose £30 to fix)

I love the GT4, my wife wont let me have one so I have the GTR, not as fast and does not have the bonnet scope but I think its a great car. so strong and very reliable.
In fact I have had 2 the first one I had a wee accident in it and the insurance company said it was not worth replacing so I had to buy another one. But have been amazing cars and I think they are a classic. There is a very good gt4 forum in the uk too, I spent alot of time looking on it when I was trying to find a new celica.

I say if thats what she wants buy her one.

there are other motors of course, but my thinking is, get the GT4 before she changes her mind and decides the new skoda is nice!!

I love that car, the only thin that can make it better is the bull bar and spare tyre on the back from the sarafi rally model.
