Hi Al, i thought the same when i bought mine, i only had one key, the Toyota one like yours, had it checked at the local locksmiths, no transponder inside so he was able to cut me a spare, but with no remote locking ( Sharon can have that one )
Saw your new Surf on here earlier, cool colour

I think there is some type of standard immobiliser because if you press the remote lock once the doors lock and when pressed again or held down the horn will give a short blast as if to announce an alarm or immobiliser.

It could also be a type of car locator like they have in the states (brings back memories of disney world carparks looking for motor!)

Must be an optional thing. Mine does not make a beep when held down but does seen to make the locks do something else so could well be a deadlock. I will investigate with the window open today.

Strange mine doesn't have a remote for the doors, but the dealer fitted a cobra alarm which locks the doors. I very much doubt if it will have security, they don't nick cars in nipland. A lot of insurance companies insist on an immobiliser for insurance, I had to have one fitted on my old Pajero, that was after I had it 3 years with the same insurers.

                UPDATE

Mine does beep afterall if you press the button twice quickly and it has alarm warning stickers in the doors so it must be belled up.
