  • Mike Dickin On Talksport Now.

He has a lawyer and a campaigner on the show who wins appeals and give free advice to folk who want to appeal parking tickets. He reckons that up to 50% of tickets issued are invalid or illegal and should be contested.

There is some really intneresting facts coming out.
Did you know that all parking tickets issued by Westminster City Council are invalid. Nobody is obliged to pay them. I wish I could record it all. Too much to take in.

    One handy site mentioned. http://www.ticketbusters.co.uk/

One of the guests was Barry Segal, founder of http://www.appealnow.com/

Neil Heron is one of the guys: http://www.thepeoplesnocampaign.co.u...ult.asp?loc=no&

Compelling stuff. Some of the stories would make your toes curl. Bailiffs clamping a tradesmans van on his drive for three days and extorting £900 from him to release it. Enough to make your blood boil.

I vaugley remember somthing my Legal lecturer said that all parking tickets, on the spot fines etc are illegal as this action does not give the individual 'Due Process' as we are allowed under the terms of the Magna Carta.

I'm not 100% sure so don't quote me!!

Those sort of tickets are just the thing they were on about. They are not legally binding but it doesn't stop them sending the bailiffs round if you don't pay. They were saying that the police don't like to get involved and will tell you it is a civil matter, when in fact they are demanding money/property with menaces, which is an arrestable offence.
I won my last battle with Wesminster City Council over a PCN. I caused them so much grief by appealing every step, that they gave up and waived it like they had done me a big favour. They rely on us Brits being meek and the fact that we readily accept any kind of authority. If you keep appealing every step, they have to weigh up the admin costs of having to write back to you and they will eventually give up. I, for one, am fed up with being ripped off.

Me to Phil, This was a private company apparantly acting on behalf of Lidl
(brighton) Not knowing how one stands leagly (which is what they rely on)
My arse gave way and i could see bailif's charging into the house so i pay'd
up, Of course once you've paid its too late very difficult if not impossible to
get your money back, Luckily the guy i was working for at the time aggreed
to pay half for me so it eased the pressure a little, I'll know better in future
              though, Ian
