    BRILLIANT, STUPID GOVERNMENT

Can I share a bit of research with those interested ?

There is an amazing new technique of creating diesel fuel from old corn cobs.

The old corn cobs, straw, whatever biomass you have, (anything with carbohydrate in) is combined with water under pressure and one of the products produced is a diesel-like oil. This is currently being called "Thermal Depolymerization", "Thermal Reconstruction", and aqueous "Hydrogenation" amongst other things. It is so new there is no settled name to call it yet.

It's brilliant in terms of green-ness. And our government is supporting it. Go government!

The point is, they simply mix the oil produced with diesel.

They don't esterify it, mix it with ethanol, methanol or any alcohol, they just pour it straight in the diesel. It's viscosity is about the same a Biodiesel.

The STUPID bit is the government is doing this, promoting it, PUTTING MONEY INTO IT (asking research people to put a tender in), saying it is good, and very very green, but the TAX OFFICE wants to tax Vegoil as per normal diesel. Because it is not esterified.

The ramifications and fallouts are not 100% clear, this is just a lovely example of the left hand of government not knowing what the right hand is doing. It is really funny, unless you have had to pay tax on your vegoil.

    Here are some links.

Don't be confused by the process they describe, which is kind of irrelevant if brilliant and new. Just realize they simply mix this oil with diesel, and are vaunting it as one of the best ways to increase the use of Biofuel in the UK - as per the Department for Transport document put up by Hawkwind.

    Doh

I think this safely means the Tax Office definition of Biodiesel is pretty dead.
Mostly because they are not taking the broader green overview.
Double-stupid. Someone needs to tell them I think.

It is very simple. It's fuel from plants, living things. Biofuel - Biodiesel.

    Vegoil tax problems ?

Are the tax problems still out there?

Has anyone see this link :

Point 3.5 seems to say that Vegoil is fine to use, provided the fuel produced meets the spec?

At the bottom of the document there also seems to be an independent adjudicators office ?

Good find, but to be honest, I'm completely f**ked off with this rubbish, and just about everything else to do with trying to lead a honest, normal life.
Seems to me virtually every person involved in politics so two-faced and self interested I really don't know where we go from here.

I think I'll go rob a cash vault or try and catch bird flu and call it a day!!!
