    The general rule of thumb is that a winch used for self recovery should have a rating of twice the weight of the vehicle. Therefore for a Surf weighing around 2t the winch should be rated at 4t or around 9000lbs. You have to remember that the time you want it most is when you're up to your axles in mud and the engine won't start

        I'm not intending on using it a lot. Just for piece of mind more than anything.

        Does it seem ok??

        Looking to mount it on a bracket rather than fork out for new bumper. does anyone have details on how this is done??

          no but id be interested. ive got an 8500lb winch that I might look at being able to swap between the trailers and the jeeps/surf
          electrics I can put on BIG connectors but I need a decent way of removing the thing. a lot of customers dont need the winch so it would be good to be able to take it off.

            Sure i've seen a pic with a winch attatched below a normal bumper. a bracket bolted/welded on to the chassis i think
