  • New timing belt fitted

I had my timing belt fitted yesterday by a mobile Toyota specialist mechanic. Thing was, looking in the engine manual, you have to remove all the air induction piping and cruise control gubbins to do the job, so bought all the seals etc for the job. Then when it came to it, all that has to be removed is the timing belt cover. I did have an idea that this is all that is required to do the job, but bought all the other seals just incase. Having watched him do the job, I kicked myself when I saw how easy it was. I also bought a new tensioner.

The dealer I got the truck from said he changed the belt, and he did. It had a brand new Mitsuboshi timing belt (the same name along with Toyota on the aircon and alternator belts I got from the main dealer) fitted. So I have kept this as a spare, and fitted the Toyota belt. The new tensioner has definitely made a difference, as the new belt is tighter than the old one, and the truck seems to be more responsive and now has instant pick up. I also had the aircon done at the same time. So this should be better in the summer. He charged £70 to fit the belt and £65 for the re-gas.
