    Gen2 v Gen3

    Right then. I currently have a 2.4 Gen 2 Surf, and completely love it....

    BUT... I want to know what the general opinion is amongst you lot, regarding the gen2 aginst the gen3 models.

    I'm fully expecting the Gen2 owners to sya the Gen 2 is better, and vice versa, but it's worth asking, eh??

    Another reason I ask, is I currently have a personalised 'P' reg plate, which I can't use on my 'K' reg, so should I sell the plate, or upgrade to a Gen 3?!?!?!?

    Too many options...

    What's the plate, then? Perhaps you should sell it to me...

    (Voted for 3rd Gen=Mutts Nuts, as that is the extent of my Surfing experience, which is not to say 2nd Gen aren't great too, merely that I haven't driven one so can't comment!)

        you can't go wrong as long as it is a Surf!
        personally I feel the Gen 2 has a real 4x4 look and has more potential for modding to give that individual look but how can you give up the DJR number plate.... seems like the deciding factor to me!

          That's the thing, though. The Gen3 MAY well be a better vehicle, ultimately, but as you say, the Gen2 has real 'raw' qualities, and just screams "AARRGGHH" at unsuspecting Nissan Micras!!!

          A plate isn't everything. Or is it???

            to me a personal plate is not at all important
            I look at the options to personalise the truck through other options and gotta say the Gen2 offers far more choices and still retains that real 4x4 presence

                Don't think a poll will help, as 2nd gen owners out number third gen owners on here by some considerable way.
                Don't forget you have the 2nd Gen Narrow body 2.4's, to the wide body 2nd Gens 2.4, to the 3.0 2nd gens. So you may find the poll a little pointing towards the 2nd Gens,
                Personally, if its a Surf and your happy with it then drive it and be happy.

                    I guess it's a matter of personal taste really, you have robust look with the 2nd gen w/body more of a practical look to the 2nd Gen N/body, first gens are just the dogs danglies, and the third gens are every bit as capable but do not look out of place at the Golf Club.

                            I like the 2nd Gen for the Tailgate [sitting on] and the look of the vehicle but would like to have the 3rd Gens Centre Diff.

                              I have just part ex'd my 2.4 gen2 for a 3.0 gen3, i personally think the gen3 is a far better option for us. We use the car every day as the family taxi, ( there's 5 of us) and we also clock many miles travelling to rugby matches.
                              Although i think the gen2 is a bit more "macho" looking.
