would Sumo's head suffer from cracking aswell then ? or was it the later ones you regulary change that are the only ones ?
Personally, I think he's isn't a duff design, it looks to different from the 89-on head that have the head problem. Its probably the same head as all the UK pickups which don't apear to suffer as much. I just think it got to hot, and Sumo got to unlucky!
But you don't see enough 1st gens to tell.

Just been looking in the book, you head is still cam in the head, but via rockers to the valves, where as 2nd gen heads have the cam working the valves.
So its still OHC, but just different to later engines.

Oh bugger, whats all this then ? give us a call tomorrow rick and i'll have a scan round, see what's available. Don't see many of them any more, last one was on a 1986 Landcruiser i rebuilt about 18 months ago.
