  • Tailgate window

I have a 3L SSRX with a Tailgate Window problem. It neither goes to the top or the bottom without a shove, either with the key or the switch. Our friends at Toyota have rubbed their hands with glee and prescribed a new regulator and motor at a cost of 300 quid + VAT. Surely it can't be both parts at fault. Is this just the typical Main Dealer policy of changing everything regardless? I was thinking of just getting a regulator first from a breakers yard, but I'm a bit doubtful there will be many s****ped Surfs about. Anyone any ideas?

      Silly question

Tried lubricating the runners with silicon spray ? (keep it off the window though)

Works a treat, costs a tenner

I have the same prob with mine from time to time. Remove inner trim climb inside and wind up the rear window. Spray ever movable part with graphite spary or something similar. Make sure u get right up the back of the gear/wind system. I have to do mine a couple of times a year. Also lube the side runner with silicon lub spray from the bottom inside the tail gate right up to the top where the window closes. It will be like new.

I've lathered everything with Cockpit Shine and at first it flew up and down but now it's sticking again.

Sure sounds like it needs a lube again,

                this tells you 2 things

                1 It needs lubricating
2 cockpit shine does not work

So......get something that does, sillicone lube from halfords is a good place to start.

I haven't used cockpit shone for years. Unless they have changed the formulation it goes sticky when damp.
                  It's only a hobby!

my window was slow, i put some spray grease on the runners, and the job was sorted.

However, I have a question for anyone planning on doing some lubing in the near future... whats the chances of getting a few photos of the inside of your gate? the reason I ask, is that I have all my relays flapping around inside, and im pretty sure thats not how they are supposed to be.

My "window down" relay has started to make a shorting noise (again) after i replaced it last year because the old one shorted out completely because it was water logged. I think the water is running down from the back window, down the wires and into the relay.

I gaffer taped the relays to the side of the inside of the gate to avoid them being in the path of the window, but I would like to see what it should be like inside the back gate. I think the relays were messed with when the fog light was put in when it was imported. .. possibly.

sorry to hijack the thread, but while people are talking about the back window, i thought it would be a good place.

The relays should be on a circuit board behind the side panels in the cargo area.

                        Toyney,

This is the best I have to offer (not my doing) as I keep saying I'll get around to it.

well, mines obviously completely wrong according to the pic describing them as being housed behind the side panel. maybe i need to take it to someone whos got an idea of why mine might have been butchered like it appears it has been. ( the interior swtich for the back window doesnt work either, maybe thats included as part of this butchering?)

its needing an oil/filter change too, wonder if TonyN knows whats what with the back gate and relays?
