  • Cleaning Engine/Engine Bay

    Hi All,

Having scoured the internet on this topic, I am fairly certain that so long as you are careful, you can spray some engine degreaser on the engine etc. and blast it with a power hose!

I an working on the engine at the moment and reckon it needs a good clean.

Advantages are that not only will it look good but you can also keep an eye out for leaks and other things because they are more noticable on a clean engine.

See here for just one example:-

    Cleaning Engine & Engine Bay

Obviously you take all precations like bagging up electrics etc.

    Has anyone done this?

Did anyone succeed and get a nice shiny engine or did you mess up the vehicle?

Some of you guys must do this after you have waded through 4 feet of mud when off roading!

I see the Surf as a bonafide 4X4 and therefore more able to cope with the engine getting a good dousing every now and then, is this so?

    Later!

I used to own a fraud transit, 2.5 derv turbo lump which had various leaks and washed that thing with degreaser, patio cleaner and paint thinners to clean off several years of crud. Never had any problems with the leccy system on it.

Make sure that the alternater is covered and watch for blasting crud into the fan belt area and timing belt cover.

      Hi,
I jet-washed mine the other day at the garage. This was to clean mud off and I just sprayed it on the main block and around the sides of the engine bay. I dont know if this is best but I keep the engine running. I guess it would be bad to spray a hot engine with cold water but i`d only driven a short distance. I`m sure driving afterwards will remove any sitting water. The motor-cross riders jet-wash their bikes after every time riding. They say this is bad long term as the water does wash a bit of lube out from seals etc. which is not always replaced.
      cheers,
      chris

If you send all mud loving Surf owners to the corner I hope you got a BIG corner

Hippo wears that mud as a badge of honour, she has a lower opinion of the cack she got at moment from M25

She sees that mud as a sign that she is NOT a school run Chelsea Tractor
