sorry TonyN, i thought the same m8...............or so the pound engineer told me

The battered surf has now been taken to the panel shop for a proper assessment. I spoke to the engineer, and he reckons its totalled, he told me, the chassis is bent, subframe is bent and suspension is bent, also taking into consideration the cost of panels and parts they will kick it in to touch.

So its time to look for another one........................alr eady been to see one .................but not ice blue over silver, sorry essex boys

Anybody any ideas how much on book price I am likely to get from insurance

    cheers

If you got the space, buy it back from the insurance Co. I'm sure you'll easy get your money back parting it out.

They should'nt let you take anything but personal stuff from the car, cos it's the insurance Co.s car now. but if you buy it back, make sure they haven't helped themselves first.

Least you'll get a new one.

Dont understand this, they are panel beaters, what have they got to do with the insurance company. Go down pay the bill for the 'engineer's report', keep the receipt and claim it back from the insurance company. Say thanks very much and take the wreck away and like slydog says - hope they dont want it either. Its still your property at the minute.

this company are the designated repair shop from the insurance company. I've already made the claim, they have estimated the cost of repairs(which I haven't seen yet) and will submit it to the insurance. If they decide its too much, or its irrepairable then its write off time.

My last two vehicles that got hit were write offs, well beyond economical repair. So I said how much you gonna give me oh and I want the vehicle back. Paid out book price and I kept the vehicles. Got both back on the road, repaired by a proper place got engineers report to say the vehicle was road worthy (for the insurance) all done for a third of the money they paid me out. Vehicle repaired back on the road and cash in me pocket.

I ran a body shop and to be honest, You can make more money on the storage charges that used to be £12.50 per day when I was in the trade.
and when a shop has to lay out a considerable ammount for parts, materials, labour and overheads etc. to repair your vehicle, then wait for the insurance company to sort everything out, (even using suppliers on account to get 30 days credit) the job just aint worth doing for the body shop so they try to encourage a write off. then whilst it is going through the process @ £12.50 per day storage (could be more) the body shop can do the small quick turn over jobs that don't need a lot of cash to sort out thus keep the turnover up and pay the wages. That's not just my opinion, that's survival....
