  • FAO Southern Ireland Peeps (Off Topic)

    Hi Any Residents of S.Ireland,

I am looking to come across to the Emerald Isle later this year to do some fishing (fresh water) and was hoping that you could recommend to me places to stay (no big hotels please), fish (preferably rivers), and of course, to sample the Guiness . There are plenty of brouchures around, but I need the truth, so if anyone can give me any pointers, I'd be really grateful.

Sorry everyone else, it's not quite a Surf related subject but I will be taking the Surf!!

    Cheers, Nick

      Surfers Paradise

      Hi Nick

If you're visiting Ireland you must come to Kerry... Surfers Paradise!
Kerry's bottom left corner... the bit with all the peninsulas.
We have the highest mountain ranges in the land, hundreds of miles unspoilt empty beaches, most of which you can drive on.
Hundreds of miles of greenlanes (known as "Mainroads") with little traffic & fewer cops (its been 3 weeks since I saw a police car).
Kerry has some of the best scenery in the world. Killarney also has a huge selection of hotels and B&B's to cator for every budget (& you get loads of Euros for a pound.)
You'll find lots of info on the web.

      Good Luck
      Paul

Its actually Ireland or ÉIRE, THE "Republic" bit always seems to get tacked on, but its not actually part of the counties name.

Ahh, sure tis an aquired taste, a bit like many other forms of beer, real ale etc.

Yeah, unfortunatly you were just in Dublin (IIRC), and despite it being my own home town, I've got to admit, its gotten a lot rougher, commercialised and blander over recent years, a bit like many other capitol cities.
However, outside of Dublin, the appeal that Ireland has traditionally offered remains.

Sorry I can't offer any tips on good fishing spots, but as a townie its something I know nothing about.
