Unfortunately there is an easy way to beat this. Ride a motorbike; carry a pillion passenger and make sure they "inadvertently" have something hanging over the back to obscure your number plate, unless you see a plod mobile about. They can track you but wont have a clue who you are or what your reg no. is.

Seriously, if they really wanted to catch "criminals" youl'd think they would keep something like this quiet so that they would have an advantage. Much more likely to use it to work out average journey times to catch all those who exceed the speed limit on "unrestricted" M-ways etc.

How do you know that they aren't allready, especially with the new sky digi boxes! Remember 'Noel's house party'?

I reckon that in the near future, terrorists and criminals will be constructing rockets to 'take out' the satellites so that they can go about their business without being watched!

Only in this country, is this allowed to happen. I don't buy the theory about criminals. They will just make up false plates. Big Brother is upon us. Just another civil liberty down the drain.

George Orwell's 1984 has come to life. What it must be like to live in a "free" country??????

Do they really think that the criminal element will use their own vehicles and registration numbers?

would post a link to our local paper with an article about the CCTV cameras tracking cars... apparently they can even tell if commercial drivers have worked over the legal maximum!

but my poncey la-di-da Newbury Weekly News needs a log on and i don't want "thespian" type e-mail off them!

There was a piece on one of the motoring programs, Fifth gear I think, about a growing problem of number plate theft. It appears the scrotes are going around nicking number plates, then putting them on their vehicles, before comiting crimes. It appears most of us don't report a missing number plate, as we think that it fell off some where (most of us that would be Salisbury plains), meanwhile some scrote is clocking points or fuel drive offs, ect.
All the laws they have passed recently have only effected the honest (well the almost honest then), the scrotes were breaking the laws before hand, so I keep wondering why the government thinks bringng in a new law is going to make them stop.
Back to point the program surgested that if we find our number plate missing, we are to report it to the Police (best to check Salisbury plain first tho), so they can put a watch on it.
                        Gone from 4x4 to 1x2
