how do you read the VIN plate
which number is the VIN?
you have model number
frame number
engine number
which one is the VIN
I have done a HPI on a car and it says the VIN I have stated is incorrect.
I dont want to walk away from a car just because of a clerical error

Surfs have a Model number, and a Frame number thats all. The frame or chassis number is on the data plate on the bulkhead, and should match the number stamped in the chassis behind the drivers side front wheel. and starts the model number, ie LN130 or KZN130, etc.....

Could just be HPi but I am not taking the risk.

Each and every surf owner has taken " a risk". One has no idea what may have happened to the car whilst it was resident in its original country.

If taking risks is not your thing I would suggest you buy a uk car like a landcruiser or something.

I am not surprised that your report showed nothing as the car may have only been here a short while. I bought mine directly from the importer with only the export docs to show for itself. Have a good luck at the car and meet the owner if you are concerned. Rough people have rough cars and nice people have nice cars.

I had a good look at mine myself, look for creases in bodywork and under bonnet for front end damage repairs. expect a little bit of damage here and there mine has the odd small ding in it, as is becomming of a 13 year old car.

You pays your money, you takes your chance................... with ANY IMPORT

I had a Toyota GT4 import and that had been registered properly and came back clear on HPi. I think that the car I was looking at had not been registered properly hence the HPI discrepancy
And yes you are right I don’t want to take a risk.
Is there anything wrong with being careful?

This is all the money I have and I don’t want the police to take a car off me because I bought it in good faith and it was dodgy

I had a BIMTA certificate with mine which guarantees that when it was imported into this country that it wasn't stolen.

Sorry, must have been drinking that post, its the drivers side frame rail, right above the antiroll bar mount.
