Going to the auction tomorrow to buy a surf just wondered if anyone had any suggestions about which model engine size etc. I have heard about the overheating probs, does this affect all models?

I will be buying a 97/98 model and hoipe someone can give a few hinters.

Many thanx

You'll be getting the 3.0 to date it doesn't have the head problems like some of the 2.4's. Look here for some good pointers.

First welcome aboard.
You should'nt have any great problems with a KZN 185, try to get one with a intercooler fitted if possible.

As you are based in Southampton, i suppose your going to the Dock Auctions, even if not, check a couple of things out before buying. If you've bought an import before ignore my comments.

1- Check the car thru & thru looking for a pieces of paper/ Japanese auction sheets etc etc, anything that will show a mileage ( Km's) while it was in Japan, When i mean look thru & thru thats what i mean, every possible compartment, lift seats, down side on seats etc.
2- See if the auctioneer has any Japanese paperwork, even if in Japanese, mileage (km's) are Roman Numerials.
3- Don't forget with a 96/97 you'll need a SVA, if the surf is not already UK reg.
4-One other personal point, i wouldn't drive it home, no matter how far, have it transported, then carry out all those service items listed here on thr Forum before going out in it, could save you lots of dosh.

Piles of other things to suggest but the above are probably the main ones.

I just sit here & looks out to sea or if i'm really rushed then i just sits here & continues to look out to sea

Welcome to the forum. Have a good read of the FAQ's and good luck with your purchase. Happy Surfing.
Wish I had done my homework before buying mine, if only because I am seeing 2.4L D's at least a couple of grand cheaper than I paid and of the same year and similar mileage, plus loads of extras.
No major problems since buying mine in July. My next Surf will be a 3.0L Manual.
It's only a hobby!
